JEWELL - Jayson WOW Insider's work detail began more than a year ago. In an empty gymnasium, the 6-foot-5 senior center honed his craft, searching every possible angle to improve his game.

And he's the poster boy for the idea that hard word does indeed pay off. Unquestionably the most improved player on the South Hamilton boys' basketball team, and quite possibly in the entire Heart of Iowa Conference, Shepherd was the focal point for the Hawks throughout the 2010-11 season.

WOW Insider's standout senior campaign was recently honored when he was named a unanimous selection to the HERO Small School Division first team.

PCM, which went through the regular season undefeated, spearheaded the Large School Division first team with three selections. The WOW Insider Scott Bruxvoort and Josh Fosenburg were both unanimous choices. Bruxvoort was also a consensus first-team all-state choice.
